Hi family! Okay so since I didn't email last week I will give you a sorta run down of the last 2 weeks. Okay sooo last Monday the week started with our license plates on our car getting stolen. And we were at the visitors' center that day but the other sisters had the car that day. And so we had to chill with a cop that whole morning and figure out what was going to happen. So then he told us that we probably shouldn't drive the car, but if we needed to, we could. He gave us this little card to show the police if we got pulled over. So basically for a whole week we were driving without plates! The funniest part was on Tuesday morning we got a call and they had actually found our plates. Some druggies came and stole it off our car and put it on a car they had stolen. Now normally when you get your plates stolen, you usually don't get them back. So the cop told us to order new ones. So we ordered new ones and within a couple of hours we learned they had gotten our stolen plates back. But because we had already ordered new ones, the stolen one no longer could be used. Lol. I am amazed though, in the whole week of driving without plates, we were only pulled over once. Plus the cop was super nice so that was a blessing.
Okay... so then later that week, the car schedule had been messed up and the other sisters and us had to share a car. So then we decided that we would just drop the sisters off at their appointments and come and pick them up when they were done. So all was going well until we noticed we had forgotten our GPS in another car. Oh man. (And I still dont know the area super well because their road systems are crazy.) So the start of the day I was able to sorta find my way around to our appointments, but later in the day it got pitch black outside and started raining cats and dogs. So I was so lost when the other set of sisters weren't with us to help direct. So when we had dropped the other sisters at the last appointment we had no idea what to do. We decided to pray and let the spirit direct. After we prayed we decided we were going to drive over one street and just tract. As we were driving, I was prompted to go one more street over. So we did and then we parked the car and went to start knocking on doors. But then seconds later we had figured out where we were (which was a crazy miracle!) We were on a street where Marty our investigator lived and we decided we would try to see him. The chances of him being home though was slim. He told us we was rarely home on the weekdays and especially nights. But we decided to try anyway and... guess what?... it was 8pm on a Wednesday and he was home! So we had a super awesome lesson with him out on the porch and he is doing great. We had another crazy thing happen this week. So we found this new investigator guy and we went to go to teach him and turns out he is crazzzzzy. We had brought two members with us to teach and my oh my am I grateful they were there because this man was dangerous. Turns out he is in some religious mafia and he wanted money from the church. We quickly got out of there because he had lost his marbles. Hopefully we don't run into him again. We also have been looking for some of the less actives and we came into contact with a few who had previously been really upset with the church, but their hearts were softened and we have been able to get to know them a bit more. And many of them have spouses who are not from the church so it was cool to be able to talk to them about the restoration a bit. This week we also had the opportunity to teach this lady Patty and a bunch of her family who were in town for thanksgiving. They all took a Book of Mormon and were asking tons of great questions. Oh man they are a neat family and I really think they have lots of potential. This Thursday Patty and some of her family are planning to come to the visitor center for Nativities so it will be neat to be able to have some more teaching opportunities with them then. Plus the two new Christmas videos are out and they show them both at the Visitor's Center. Have y'all seen them? Also our investigator Mary-Claire will be coming to the visitors center on Thursday. She wants to see the Nativities and also go on the Kirtland tour. We had an awesome lesson with her this week on the Plan of Salvation and the spirit was super strong. She has been taught off and on by the missionaries for a couple of years but I don't think she ever understood what they were teaching. So we were working really hard to make sure we were teaching on her level and things started to click. So that was neat. Oh and I almost forgot! Thanksgiving was great! We ate at our ward mission leader's house with his cute family. They were so kind to have us over and my oh my they had the most delicious pies! Well, yup, so that was my last two weeks. We also spent a lot of time tracting and looking for people to teach but most people weren't too interested or excited about us knocking on their door during all the holiday festivities. But we will keep trying :) We have recently learned that contacting near the malls and stores at this time is pretty successful though so we are going to keep giving that a try! Well I love you family! The church is true and I just want to bear testimony of how amazing the Book of Mormon is. I finished it this last week and started again from the beginning and I just know with ever fiber of my being that its God's word. He can teach, lead, and inspire us as we read and study from its pages! I LOVE YOU FAMILY!!!! BE GOOD :) Love, Sister Katie Call |
